Census 2021 - Office of National Statistics

December 2, 2020

Census 2021

The census is a national survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

This information helps to plan and fund public services. By taking part in the census, you’ll help make sure your community gets the services it needs.

The next census, which is carried out by the Office for National Statistics, is in March 2021 and can be completed online.

People will also be able to request paper copies and different languages.

If you have family or neighbours who do not have internet access or skills, please do your bit by letting them know about the forthcoming census and finding out if they need help to complete it.

The census is mandatory and you can be fined if you don't do it.

Job opportunities

You can help organise the census, tell people about it and assist residents to complete the survey, through paid, temporary jobs.

The jobs will give you:

  • a short-term income boost
  • a competitive salary
  • a job that's local to you
  • flexible working hours that fit around your commitments
  • the opportunity to help shape the future of your local community
  • a way to learn new skills and add experience to your CV
  • a sense of pride and fulfillment from helping others and doing good
  • a chance to meet a wide range of people from all walks of life
